Since June 2025, a new dog legislation applies in the canton of Zurich. All new dog owners must now complete mandatory training – no matter whether you have a small mixed-breed or a large German shepherd at home.
This training consists of a theory course, which covers the most important basics of dog behavior, communication, and species-appropriate training, as well as a practical basic course. This training must be completed within three months after starting to keep a dog or after moving to the canton of Zurich. Both first-time and returning owners are affected equally.
Those who do not complete the courses on time are violating the law.

In this exciting theory course, you learn the most important basics about dog behavior, communication, learning behavior, and species-appropriate training. The course is aimed at all dog owners who want to better understand their dog, handle everyday life safely, and comply with the legal requirements of the canton of Zurich. At the end, the mandatory exam takes place.
