📣 NEW DOG LAW ZURICH - What you need to know!
From 1 June 2025, new regulations for dog owners will apply in the canton of Zurich.
Dog Affair will help you get off to a relaxed start in compliance with the law 🐶💡
WHAT IS CHANGING?
The new law stipulates:
📣 Theory course for all first-time dog owners and dog owners who have not had a dog for more than 10 years.
📣 Earliest date: One year before the start of dog ownership or before moving to the canton of Zurich.
📣 Latest date: Two months after starting to keep a dog or after moving to the canton of Zurich.
The theory course is completed with an examination. The examination certificate must be submitted to the municipality of residence within three months of completing the course.
📣 Compulsory practical courses for:
All persons who keep a dog (regardless of breed or size) in the canton of Zurich from 1 June 2025 or who move to the canton with a dog are obliged to complete the practical course. The course comprises at least six lessons and must be completed no later than twelve months after starting to keep a dog or moving to the canton.
📣 Exceptions to the compulsory practical course
There are certain exceptions where the practical course is not mandatory:
📣 Dogs that are older than ten years at the time of purchase or arrival
📣 Persons who move to the canton of Zurich and have already completed an equivalent practical dog training course, provided this is confirmed by the veterinary office
📣 Adopting a dog from a spouse or partner if the dog has been living in the same household for at least six months
📣 Dog trainers with the appropriate authorisation from the veterinary office
📣 Persons who are unable to complete practical training for health reasons or due to their dog's state of health may be exempted by the veterinary office upon request
All courses must be completed at a recognised dog school - like ours 🐾
📣 Training begins at the earliest from the sixth month of the dog's life and must be completed within twelve months of adoption. Successful completion is documented by the achievement of all learning objectives - if this is not the case, further lessons may be due.
